REPETITIVE TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION (rTMS)

rTMS is a highly effective, drug-free treatment for neurological and psychiatric disorders such as depression, chronic pain, dementia and addiction. The method uses precise magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain - with lasting effects. We use rTMS specifically for:

  • Depression
    including treatment-resistant depression
  • Age-related memory disorders
    and dementia (cognitive stabilization)
  • Chronic pain
    e.g. fibromyalgia, migraine, polyneuropathy
  • Addiction
    e.g. alcohol, nicotine
  • M. Parkinson’s disease
Improvement in motor and psychiatric symptoms
  • Fatigue
    e.g. in ME/CFS, Long-COVID, etc.)
  • Sleep disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorders
  • Stroke rehabilitation

How does rTMS work?

A magnetic coil is positioned externally on the head and sends short, repetitive pulses to specific areas of the cerebral cortex. This helps restore balance to disrupted neural networks. Its effectiveness has been proven in numerous placebo-controlled scientific studies.

Treatment procedure

The treatment is painless, well tolerated and does not require sedation or medication. rTMS has virtually no side effects, so there are few contraindications. The procedure is not suitable for pregnant women and people with brain pacemakers or cochlear implants. Duration: approx. 3-10 minutes per session Frequency: 5 times per week (Mon-Fri) Treatment period: Usually 3 weeks

Costs & reimbursement

Treatment is billed according to the German Scale of Medical Fees (GOÄ).Private health insurance companies usually cover the costs of rTMS treatment for depressive disorders, and occasionally for other indications upon request. Statutory health insurance companies do not currently cover the treatment as a rule.
